WHY AM I STUDYING AT UIA? (composition week 3)

At the end of year 2010, I was looking for another educational goal, a new carrier to start, another major to reach, so I decided to study English for Translations and Interpretation at UIA. I was all ready with a preschool teaching bachelor's degree and I did not have job, so I realized I needed a different tool to achieve to the professional success. At that time, I had been studied English in several educational institutes including the CCCN, but I did not feel satisfied with my level of comprehension and communication.

The first step I made was search the syllabus of this carrier in different universities. This was the also the first good point added to UIA because mostly of the other universities has a program emphasized in English for teaching and only UIA have the specialty in translation, at least the only one of the options I studied. The next step was analyzed the schedules and for me that I came from Escazú the ideal timetable was this because it let me be on time even if there any traffic jam. Location is crucial, be near of your home is a guarantee of comfort and that you could arrive early at home at night. Also, it is important to have different ways to access at the university and you can take, depends of your location, the train, almost all the Guadalupe buses, Barrio Escalante Bus and also the university have a parking lot for professor and students, and surrounding the area there are like three more public parking lots.

A big percent of the university population came from their jobs and at night they want to eat something. Thinking of this, now there is not only the soda but also a small cafeteria at the entrance of the installations. If you do not want to eat something of this places, you can choose eat at the two nearest restaurants placed one in one of the front corners of the university block.

I’ve been study for approximately one year and a half, and I found that the quality and level of professionalism of the professors are really good. As everything in this life, you could not be always agree or match with all the teaching methods, but the grade of compliance with the student I found is really good in mostly all of them. They tried to give the best material and give support for the students’ course deals.

Not everything have been good, I’ve had some troubles with the university. The most recent was with the lab hours of last quarter. About the change of administration, lab assistants change, and they made the resume of the hours one day before of the usual, just because they thought that was the best, and for that I would not be able of finish it. I almost lost the course because of this, but thank to the decision taken of Carrier Director me and others who was in the same situation could continue studying without problem.

Other thing I not agreeing at all is to have to come on Saturdays to do the exams. This, because for people like me that work in office schedule use this day to do lab hours of all courses, but now since this quarter it won’t be a trouble any more.

In general, I feel that been study at this institution have been a good experience, have felt the personnal support and I think I made a good decision subscribing me here. I hope the rest of my time here the experiences being better than the already lived.
